Jeremy Gaughan Gurnee Police Appoint Deputy Chief of Operations | Gurnee Police Department
During the recent Village Board Meeting, Gurnee recognized two distinguished members of its Police Department: Officer of the Year Tom Yencich and Civilian of the Year Howard Thomas.
Officer Yencich, a 12-year veteran of the department, serves as a canine handler and multidisciplinary instructor. He has been instrumental in life- saving incidents, led critical training sessions for officers, and ranked first on the Sergeant eligibility list. His commitment to safety, service, and mentorship was highlighted by the village.
Howard Thomas brings over 30 years of experience in public safety communications. Known for his calm demeanor during high-pressure situations, he has managed critical incidents such as structure fires and even assisted in delivering a baby over the phone.
The village expressed pride in both individuals' contributions. "Join us in congratulating Officer Yencich and Communications Operator Thomas for their outstanding service and commitment to Gurnee," said officials.
