"Our family, like so many, represents multiple generations of Highland Parkers who fostered a love of learning at the Library. One of the true delights of raising my own family in my hometown has been recreating some of my favorite childhood memories with my children. Starting when I moved here in 1965 at the age of three, I discovered magic in this place. Browsing, checking out, and bringing home piles of books was always a treat with so much anticipation on the ride home over which one to read first! From storytimes to summer reading, visiting authors to art displays, I know that similar wonderful memories abound for countless other members of our community. "
She quoted Margaret Fuller: "today a reader, tomorrow a leader," emphasizing the library's role in fostering leadership within the community.
Mayor Rotering acknowledged various individuals and groups who contributed to this project:
"On behalf of my Council colleagues Tony Blumberg, Barisa Bruckman, Jon Center, Annette Lidawer, Yumi Ross, and Andrés Tapia; I would like to recognize the outstanding work of the Library’s Board of Trustees. Under the leadership of president Rob Olian and past president Carol Wolfe; this board has done yeoman’s work as stewards of the Library. From inception to today; you have approached this significant undertaking with care and deliberation balancing fiscal responsibility and forward-facing investment ultimately championing a plan for a library building that will serve this community well for years to come. "
