The Lake County Gazette has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Office of Libertyville Village President. The request seeks access to all emails sent by the mayor or president over the past 30 days. This request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the records in electronic format.
As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we have emphasized the importance of accessing public records. This enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as members of the media. We have also requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating information to the public.
In addition, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that supports media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through FOIA and Sunshine Laws. More information about this coalition can be found on their website at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.
We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
