The Lake Bluff Police Department announced its partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies to enhance traffic safety efforts aimed at reducing speeding. Throughout July, motorists can expect increased patrols targeting speeding and other traffic violations.

"Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous," said Police Chief Matthew Smizinski. "Speed limits aren’t a suggestion – they are the law. "

Speeding poses risks for all motorists by reducing a driver’s ability to steer safely around other vehicles, hazardous objects, or unexpected curves.

During this campaign, officers will intensify enforcement of posted speed limits. Offenders will be stopped and ticketed in areas prone to speed-related crashes. The goal is to save lives.

Drivers can expect increased patrols throughout the Village of Lake Bluff and across the state from July 6-31.

This initiative is part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign funded by federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT. It also supports IDOT’s broader "It’s Not a Game" media campaign.
