A delegation from Highwood recently visited Pievepelago, Italy, where they were greeted by local officials including Mayor Corrado Ferroni, Deputy Mayor Davide Fiorenza, and Cultural Director Livio Migliori. The visit highlighted the historical ties between the two communities, which date back to early 20th-century immigration from Italy’s Apennine region to the Lake Michigan area. It is estimated that over 5,000 people of Modenese descent now reside in the Highwood and Highland Park regions. The trip provided an opportunity to explore shared heritage and discuss potential cultural and community exchanges.
