Lake County Sheriff's investigators are examining a serious traffic accident that took place in Beach Park on Thursday evening. The incident occurred on June 26, 2025, at around 7:35 p.m. Deputies responded to a call about a crash with injuries on Lewis Avenue, just north of Beach Road.
Upon arrival, deputies found three vehicles with significant damage. Initial findings indicate that a 2004 Mini Cooper, driven by a 52-year-old man from Waukegan, was heading northbound on Lewis Avenue. Witnesses noted the Mini Cooper was being driven erratically before the collision.
For reasons yet to be determined, the driver of the Mini Cooper veered into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a southbound 2004 Buick SUV. The Buick was driven by a 34-year-old from Waukegan and had three children inside. Subsequently, the Mini Cooper also hit a southbound 2018 GMC SUV driven by a 48-year-old woman from Zion.
The driver of the Mini Cooper suffered critical injuries and was taken to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition. The occupants of both the Buick and GMC were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
