The village has issued important reminders for the upcoming July 4th parade, emphasizing parking regulations and road closures to ensure a smooth event.
No parking signs will be posted 24 hours in advance on Thursday morning and enforced starting at 8:00 am on Friday, July 4th. Residents parked on the street will receive knocks on their doors beginning at 6:00 am as a reminder to move their vehicles off the route by Thursday night.
Accessible parking spots are limited this year, located at Walnut and North Ave, and at the Train Depot. The lot off Oak is no longer available for accessible parking.
Road closures will commence at 8:30 am, including the W. Scranton cut off. All eastbound Rt. 176 traffic will be re-routed onto Sheridan Road starting at
8:30 am. Eastbound E. Sheridan Place traffic will only be open to parade
participants after 9:00 am. Late arriving parade participants can enter E.
Sheridan Place via Sheridan Road, park in the Middle School lot, and walk to
their group or float.
A police drone will be utilized during the event for safety purposes.
Pedestrians walking from the west side of Sheridan Road will be guided towards
the train station for crossing with assistance from the safety team at E.
Scranton Avenue.
Drop-offs should occur at the train station rather than major roadways such as
Rt. 176, W. Scranton, and Sheridan Road to prevent traffic congestion.
"If driving," said officials, "consider carpooling or using the Lake Forest or
Great Lakes Train Stations to park and use the Metra. " Parking remains very
"limited in our small village."
