The Lake Forest Police Department is marking its 131st anniversary on July 2, 2025. The department was officially established in 1894 by Mayor Calvin Durand, Jr. The original ordinance remains displayed at the Public Safety Building.
The department's history began with Officer James Gordon patrolling on a bicycle. By 1902, Officer Walker Sales had transitioned to using a motorcycle for patrols. Over the years, the department has seen significant changes in its operations and equipment.
For over a century, officers have been committed to serving the community around the clock with dedication and professionalism. The department emphasizes fairness, respect, and compassion in its interactions with the public.
In a statement of gratitude, the department acknowledged the support from residents and community partners: "THANK YOU! Your support means the world to us, and we wouldn’t be here without you."
The Lake Forest Police Department looks forward to continuing its service to the community in the years ahead.
