Cook Memorial Library features new books by genealogist Thomas MacEntee

Who transitioned from an IT professional to a renowned genealogist? Thomas MacEntee, known for his engaging presentations at the Cook Memorial Public Library District, is also an author with several new books in the library's collection.

Among his latest works are "AI and Genealogy: A Practical Guide to Summarizing, Transcribing, and Translating Historical Documents," which highlights the benefits of using AI in genealogical research. In this book, MacEntee explains how advanced language models can help researchers by providing accurate summaries, transcriptions, and translations of family documents.

Another notable book is "Ancestor Sketch: How to Turn Years of Genealogy Research into a Captivating Family Story." This guide offers a method to simplify writing family histories through manageable projects called ancestor sketches.

"The Big Book of Genealogy Lists" serves as a resource for navigating historical documents and family records. It provides reference lists that aim to make genealogical research less frustrating.

In "Can I Use That in My Genealogy?: A Guide to Copyright and Family History," MacEntee addresses issues related to copyright and privacy when sharing family history online or in print. The book discusses best practices for ethical genealogy research.

"From Dust to Data: How ILCD and ICD Codes Can Guide Genealogical Journeys" explores the often-overlooked dimension of health conditions and causes of death in genealogy. It explains how understanding these aspects can provide deeper insights into ancestors' lives.

MacEntee has been a frequent speaker at the Cook Memorial Public Library District over the years. His presentations can be found on Legacy Family Tree Webinars and YouTube. He plans to retire at the end of this year but will present one final time at the library in the fall.
