The Batavia Police Department participated in a statewide traffic safety campaign from June 20 to July 7, aiming to reduce impaired driving and promote seat belt use during the Fourth of July holiday period. The department collaborated with over 200 state and local law enforcement agencies in a high-visibility enforcement effort to enhance road safety in Illinois.
During this campaign, Batavia officers conducted 57 traffic stops and issued 56 citations. These included 37 for speeding, one for distracted driving, and 18 for various other traffic violations. Additionally, officers made one DUI arrest related to alcohol, one DUI arrest related to drugs, and one arrest for driving without a valid license.
"This campaign is a reminder that impaired driving is not only dangerous but also illegal," said the Batavia Police Department. The department emphasized its commitment to road safety through proactive enforcement and public education.
The enforcement campaign was part of the statewide initiatives "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "Drive High Get a DUI," and "Click It or Ticket." These initiatives were supported by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). IDOT's "It’s Not a Game" media campaign further reinforced these efforts by highlighting the serious consequences of impaired and unsafe driving.
