The Barrington Area Library has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This recognition follows the library's transition from an Annual Financial Report to an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) during the fiscal year 2024 audit process.
Lauren Rosenthal, the library's Finance Manager, played a significant role in achieving this award, with support from other key staff members. The Barrington Area Library is now one of only three libraries in the state to receive this honor.
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) promotes excellence in government finance by offering best practices and resources to over 21,000 members. The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program was established in 1945 to encourage comprehensive financial reporting beyond standard accounting principles. Although many larger government entities regularly receive this award, libraries often face challenges due to the complexity and effort required.
