North Chicago School District 187 has released its schedule of events for August, outlining preparations and key dates as the new academic year approaches. The district, which serves Lake County and includes schools such as A.J. Katzenmaier Academy, Evelyn Alexander School, Forrestal Elementary School, Learn 10 Charter School, LEARN Charter - North Chicago Campus, Neal Math Science Academy, and North Chicago Community High School (NCCHS), will hold several back-to-school activities in the coming weeks (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
On August 2, community members are invited to attend North Chicago Community Day at NCCHS from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. D187's Back-to-School Event is scheduled for August 7 at Neal Math & Science Academy from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Forrestal Elementary will host a Meet the Teacher/Supply Drop Off event on August 14.
The first day of school for grades 1-3 at Forrestal and all students at NCCHS is set for August 18. Kindergarteners begin on August 21 at Forrestal, while Pre-K students start on August 25 at GBECC.
High school events include Freshman Orientation on August 5 and 6 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM each day. An Athletics Parent Meeting will take place on August 5 in the NCCHS Cafeteria from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Freshman Parent Orientations are scheduled for August 8 and again on August 18 in the cafeteria. Fall sports begin officially on August 11.
A Senior Parent Meeting & BBQ is planned for seniors and their families on August 26 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Cafeteria/Court Yard. The All-School Pep Rally will be held on the NCCHS Field on August 29.
Athletic competitions this month include Boys Varsity Soccer against Rochelle Zell Jewish (away) on August 27; Frosh/Soph Football and Varsity Football versus Zion-Benton (away), as well as Boys Varsity Soccer against East Peoria (home) on August 29; and a Girls Varsity Tennis Invitational involving multiple schools including Jacobs (away) on August 30.
Professional development activities include New Teacher Induction from August 5-7 at NCCHS, Vivi Level I Training via Zoom for district staff on August10-11, with additional VIVI training specifically for high school staff scheduled for August11 at NCCHS.
Board meetings this month include an IA-FOP Joint Board Meeting via Zoom onAugust26 from6:00PMto8:00PM.NCCHS students will participate in the NLCC Leadership Conference in Round Lake BeachonAugust28from8:00AMto2:00PM.
