Collinsville High hosts early morning pep rally broadcast live on KMOV

Collinsville High School hosted a live pep rally on Friday, August 22, as KMOV-St. Louis broadcast from the Vergil Fletcher Gym early in the morning. The event took place from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., with students and staff gathering to showcase school spirit.

The pep rally featured performances by the CHS Bands, Dance Team, Cheerleaders, Color Guard, and student group Kahok Krazies. Many students arrived before dawn to participate and represent Collinsville High School to viewers across the St. Louis metro area.

During the broadcast, several school leaders spoke with KMOV's Paige Hulsey about activities at Collinsville High School. These included Collinsville Area Vocational Center Director Joe McGinnis, CHS Athletic Director Clay Smith, Kahok Krazie Gracie Warner, and Principal Bobby Wright.

"Thanks to Collinsville Area Vocational Center Director Joe McGinnis, CHS Athletic Director Clay Smith, Kahok Krazie Gracie Warner and CHS Principal Bobby Wright for talking to KMOV's Paige Hulsey about all of the great things happening in and around the Collinsville High School campus," stated event organizers.

Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 includes schools in Madison and St. Clair counties such as Caseyville Elementary School, Collinsville Middle School, Dorris Intermediate School, Jefferson Elementary School, John A. Renfro Elementary School, Kreitner Elementary School, Maryville Elementary School, Summit Elementary School, Twin Echo Elementary School and Webster Elementary School (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), District 10 employs 418 teachers who earn an average salary of $60,392 before pension contributions; 81 percent are women while 19 percent are men. No teachers have more than ten absences in a school year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The district is comprised of approximately 56 percent White students, 14.1 percent Black students, 24.1 percent Hispanic students and 0.5 percent Asian students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). In fiscal year 2020 the district spent $16,872 per student for a total expenditure of $104 million (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

Event highlights included band performances at both hour marks during the live segments as well as interviews with school leaders and spirited displays by various student groups.
