Lake Forest High School will introduce a new policy this fall requiring all students and staff to wear visible, school-issued IDs and lanyards during the school day and on school-provided transportation. The measure is set to begin on August 27, 2025, the first day of the academic year.

Under the new policy, students will receive their ID and lanyard at the start of the year and are expected to have them visible whenever they are on campus or using school-sponsored transportation.

Chuck Walsh, Director of Safety and Security, stated: “The visible ID and lanyard policy is a simple but powerful way to ensure we know who belongs in the building at all times. It strengthens our ability to identify students quickly and is in keeping with best practices across the country.”

The IDs also serve operational functions such as granting access to cafeterias, buses, school events, and for identification when requested by staff. If a student forgets their ID, they will be given a temporary one for that day. Lost or damaged IDs can be replaced through the technology office for a small fee.

Principal Erin Lenart commented: “This policy aligns with best practices in school safety while also reinforcing a culture of belonging and shared responsibility. Wearing a student ID is a visible reminder that every student is part of the LFHS community.”

According to district officials, this initiative reflects Lake Forest High School’s commitment to its One Lake Forest guiding statement—a vision focused on alignment, consistency, and care throughout the school. Establishing clear procedures that promote both safety and community connection remains central to these efforts.

Further details about the policy—including frequently asked questions, replacement processes, and guidelines—are available from the district.
