Duke’s Root Control, Inc. will conduct routine smoke testing in Wauconda from September 24 to 26, 2025. The testing will occur in various areas, including parts of Slocum Lake Road, Francis Street, Larkdale Row, Kimball Avenue, Ridge Street, S Main Street, Castlebrook Townhomes; and the Subdivisions of Oak Grove, Saddlewood, and Aspen Grove.
The process is part of preventative maintenance to assess the condition of the Village's sanitary sewer system and private sewer service laterals for potential defects needing repair. The smoke used is non-toxic and non-flammable. Residents will receive informational door tags explaining how to prepare for the test. Presence during the test is not required.
Representatives from Duke’s may need access to manholes within Right-of-Way or utility easements on private property. They will carry identification badges and wear company uniforms.
For questions or concerns, residents can contact Duke’s Root Control at (888) 620-0010 or the Public Works Department at (847) 526-9610. In case smoke appears from a floor drain during testing, residents should reach out to either Duke's Root Control or Public Works. An informational video on sanitary sewer smoke testing is available online.
The Village of Wauconda appreciates residents' understanding and cooperation as this project progresses.
