At around 1:00 p.m. on September 22, 2025, Limestone Community High School administration received a report about a possible weapon on campus. The school promptly contacted the Bartonville Police Department. According to Superintendent Keith Brown, "Within minutes of the initial report, a student was found to be in possession of a weapon and was immediately taken into custody. The school was put into a 'hold' throughout the investigation."

Superintendent Brown emphasized that student safety is the school's top priority and that maintaining an appropriate educational environment is central to its mission. He stated, "While this appears to be an isolated incident; beginning tomorrow and out of an abundance of caution, there will be enhanced security measures in place including, but not limited to: additional police presence; searching of students via metal detecting devices; a strict no bag / clear bag policy will be enforced (bags will not be allowed into the building, sports bags will be thoroughly searched before entrance); limited movement throughout the building throughout the day."

Brown expressed gratitude for both law enforcement's quick response and those who reported the threat: "I want to thank Bartonville Police Department for its swift response today. I also want to thank those who came forward with this threat information, which allowed for quick intervention before any harm. It is critical to remember, 'See something, Say something, Do something.' Students, staff, and parents can report information to any administrator, a teacher, or trusted adult. Students can also use Safe2HelpIL to share concerns about themselves or others in a confidential environment."

The district has chosen not to release the name of the student involved and has turned over the matter to local law enforcement and prosecutors. "Bartonville Police Department is continuing an investigation into the alleged conduct. The District has no further information regarding the investigation and cannot comment further on the law enforcement investigation, the potential criminal prosecution or related legal procedures," Brown said.

Further updates will be provided as appropriate.
