Dallas Elementary School District 327 has announced changes to its end-of-day procedures for students, effective Monday, October 20. According to a letter sent to parents, any changes to students’ end-of-day plans must be communicated to the school by noon. Calls received after this time requesting changes will not be accepted.
The district is also considering a further change that could begin on January 5. Under this potential policy, parents would be required to choose a single dismissal procedure for their child. This would mean that changes to drop-off locations or bus assignments for bus riders would not be permitted. For example, a parent might choose to always pick up their child at the end of the day, or a child might always ride the bus home. In cases where a child splits time between two homes, parents could specify which days the child goes to each home.
The only exception for bus riders would be if a parent decides to pick up their child from school instead of having them ride the bus. As stated in the letter, "Parents must phone the school by noon to notify us of end-of-day plans. The only change allowed for bus riders is for the parent to decide to pick up their child from school."
The proposed changes will be discussed and voted on at the November school board meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m. The district has invited parents to attend the meeting if they wish to express concerns or provide input.
