The Village of Gurnee has announced the start of its 2025 Leaf Collection Program, which will run from Monday, October 13 through Friday, December 5. The program is managed by Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS), which will rotate throughout the entire village to collect leaves. Residents are required to place their leaves at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the Monday of their scheduled pickup week.
There are two options available for leaf collection: weekly bagged collection and traditional bi-weekly vacuum service. The speed of collection may vary depending on weather conditions and the volume of leaves falling in a short period, so some rotations could take longer than a week to complete.
For those east of I-94, vacuum service will be provided during odd weeks:
- Week 1: October 13–17
- Week 3: October 27–31
- Week 5: November 10–14
- Week 7: November 24–28
Residents west of I-94 will have their collections during even weeks:
- Week 2: October 20–24
- Week 4: November 3–7
- Week 6: November 17–21
- Week 8: December 1–5
Residents who opt for vacuum service should note that if there is a large volume of leaves, collection might not occur as scheduled. LRS will complete one side of town before moving to the other if delays happen.
Rules for vacuum service include placing raked leaves at the curb line by Monday at 6 a.m., avoiding pushing leaves into streets or sidewalks, and ensuring only leaves—not grass, branches, or other yard waste—are left for pickup. In case of rain, residents should still put out their leaves; collection will resume as soon as possible.
The bagged collection option offers weekly pickups on regular garbage days with no limit on bags collected. This method is not affected by weather or volume and is free throughout the eight-week season.
LRS trucks will conduct practice runs during the week of October 6. Residents may see these trucks traveling through neighborhoods in preparation for official collections.
The Village also reminds residents that leaf burning is prohibited.
