Coalers girls tennis team falls short in close matches against LaSalle-Peru and Ottawa

The Coal City High School Girls Tennis team narrowly lost two recent non-conference matches, both by a 3-2 margin, against LaSalle-Peru and Ottawa Township. The matches highlighted strong performances by singles players Becca Hall and Kyla Kohler, who were responsible for all four of the Coalers' victories across the two contests.

Coach Matt Leman commented on their performance: "Becca, No. 1 Singles, and Kyla, No. 2 Singles, were nothing short of spectacular, delivering all four victories for the Coalers across the two contests."

In the match versus LaSalle-Peru, Becca Hall won her match against Ella Lannen with a 6-0, 6-2 score. Kyla Kohler defeated Meredith Politsch in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. Against Ottawa Township, Hall continued her winning streak by defeating Savannah Fredericksen 6-1, 6-1. Kohler secured another win over Reese Purcell in two tiebreakers: 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5).

Despite these singles wins, Coal City lost all six doubles matches to their opponents from both schools.

The team's record now stands at 10 wins and eight losses this season as they prepare for the upcoming IHSA Sectionals scheduled for October 17.

Coal City High School is part of the Coal City Community Unit School District 1. This district serves Grundy and Will counties and includes several schools such as Coal City Early Childhood Center and Coal City Middle School. Additional data shows that Coal City Community Unit School District 1 employs a total of 153 teachers with an average salary of $69,297; nearly four out of five are women. As sectionals approach on October 17th, Hall and Kohler's contributions continue to be important for the team's progress.
