The Lake Forest College Department of Theater is presenting the world premiere of "Esther, Frog Queen," a play by local playwright Julie Marie Myatt. The production is directed by Chloe Johnston, who serves as Chair of Theater and Associate Professor of Theater and Performance Studies at the college.
"Esther, Frog Queen" tells the story of Martin, believed to be the last frog of his species and held in a laboratory by an ambitious scientist. When Esther, the last female frog, is found and brought into captivity, she is told to mate with Martin to save their kind. However, Esther resists these expectations and seeks her own freedom with support from some lizards.
“Julie took an obscure science story and spun it into a funny, moving, thought-provoking comedy about women’s bodily autonomy and ecological collapse,” said Johnston.
Johnston worked closely with faculty members, students, and alumni on this project. Notable collaborators include Charlie Alves ’08 and KJ Robinson ’24.
The play will be performed from October 30 to November 2 at Hixon Hall.
