International documentary photographer Christian Clauwers addressed students and community members about his work documenting climate change on Thursday. The event was organized by the Antioch Rotary Club, which invited Clauwers to share his experiences photographing locations in the Arctic.

During his presentation, Clauwers displayed images of retreating glaciers, melting permafrost, the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, penguins in Antarctica, and other remote sites. His photographs aimed to illustrate the effects of climate change in various parts of the world.

The event took place at Lakes Community High School. Both Antioch Community High School and Lakes Community High School are part of the Antioch Community High School District 117, which serves Lake County (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The district employs 178 teachers with an average salary of $63,920 before pension contributions; 57.6 percent are women and 42.4 percent are men. No teachers in the district have more than ten absences in a school year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The student body is composed of approximately 78 percent White students, 3.1 percent Black students, 12.1 percent Hispanic students, and 3.2 percent Asian students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). In 2020, spending per student in the district was $29,553 for a total expenditure of $77,872,708 (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

"Thank you to the for bringing this unique opportunity to Lakes," said an event attendee.
