Lake County officials recently completed the Wilson Road underpass, which provides a trail access from Marl Flat Forest Preserve east to Fairfield Park in Round Lake, Illinois.
The project also extended the Millennium Trail by half a mile, completing an 18-mile loop connecting Mundelein to the Fairfield Park via the Countryside Golf Course, Lakewood, Singing Hills and Marl Flat forest preserves.
Both projects bring the Millennium Trail closer to completion. Nearly 27 miles of the planned 35-mile trail have been finished, and are open for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing.The trail will eventually join with the Des Plains River Trail in Wadsworth.
