For the entire month of January, residents can recycle small electronic devices by dropping them off at Village Hall at 850 Waukegan Road.
The efforts will help Recycling Avenue, a branch of Avenues to Independence that refurbishes the electronics, provide employment to local adults with disabilities.
Recycling Avenue is an Illinois-based project that started in Wheeling in 2007 by Greg Campone and P.J. Flaherty, two young adults with physical challenges. It has grown to span dozens of recycling stations in Chicagoland, including Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Buffalo Grove and Main Township.
With the young men providing their service free of charge, Recycling Avenue accepts cell phones, laptops, inkjet cartridges, ink toners, MP3 players, digital cameras, GPS devices, graphic calculators, radar detectors, Apple products, small electronic handheld devices or game consoles, flat-screen computer monitors (LCD), rechargeable batteries, house phones, computer chips and hard drives.
The program cannot accept printers, televisions or CRT monitors.
