GOP candidate Benjamin Salzberg, who is running for the District 29 state Senate seat, voiced support for Gov. Bruce Rauner in a statement after his recent budget address.

“I definitely support the governor’s call as far as reforms and increased education spending,” Salzberg said.

Salzberg also said he supports the need to ensure that the budget is used to provide services to those who need them. Like Rauner, he also suggests there is a need for both parties to work together.

“We have to understand…that the old ways do not work,” Salzberg said. “You’re doing the same thing over and over again, and you have to have change.”

Salzberg’s goals include supporting children and their education while still finding ways to save money and pay down debt, as well as implementing new initiatives. Salzberg said having a billion dollars in interest to pay down on loans is unacceptable and wants to join in the fight to balance the state's budget.

"We need to balance that budget," he said.
