Highland Park City Council considers fire trucks, aerial mapping for meeting

Mayor Nancy Rotering will issue a proclamation for Women's International Day and honor WWII Veterans when Highland Park’s City Council convenes at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 1707 St. Johns Ave.

The mayor will announce the designated day honoring women — scheduled for March 8 — and plan to declare 2016 as a year for Highland Park to recognize World War II Veterans.

Additionally, the city council will hear website updates, consider purchasing fire apparatus and attend to several ordinances. Specifically, regulations related to zoning, public works and community development are up for authorization.

Administrative omnibus items will cover fair employment practices, provide for city manager pro tem and issue temporary parking closures for a “Summer Classic Homes Grand Opening” special event at 1850 Second St., Suite 162.

In public works, the council will decide on the disposal of surplus property, approve the purchase of a diesel hook lift truck and related equipment, amend the city budget and enter into an agreement with a vendor to provide aerial mapping services in the amount up to $36,762.

Regarding community development, the council will hear a request for a variance to build a detached garage.

In council and city staff business, website upgrades to improve communication with the public will be discussed.
