Lake Zurich baseball star Tyler Snep has signed with the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, according to a recent report from the Chicago Tribune.
The sophomore, who was tapped as one Illinois' top class of 2019 prospects by "Prep Baseball Report," turned down offers to play at Illinois State and Xavier.
Iowa has a strong history of signing players from the Chicago areas, and it appears to be paying off. The Hawkeyes finished this season at 38-20 and won the Big Ten Championship for the first time.
Snep looks like he'll help the squad even more. The Bears' MVP this season, he batted .398 with a .434 on-base percentage and .786 slugging percentage. He also notched nine home runs, 13 doubles, 40 RBIs, 25 runs scored and seven stolen bases.
Snep and senior pitcher Matt Svanson are the first two Lake Zurich players to sign with a Division I team since 2014. Svanson signed a letter of intent with Lehigh University.
