The College of Lake County women’s soccer team is getting a big boost of experience. Nick Carter, an accomplished player and coach, has taken over head coaching duties for the Lancers.
Carter spent three years as an assistant men’s soccer coach at Averett University in Virginia, helping the team to a 20-34-1 record during his time. The squad made three playoff appearances and boasted five all-conference and all-state selections in his tenure.
“We are delighted to have coach Carter join our staff,” Nic Scandrett, athletic director at Lake County, said in a news release. “It’s always challenging to do a coaching search this late in the summer, but we made no compromises. He’s an ideal fit for our program and I’m confident that our student-athletes will love him.”

He played soccer for Richmond International and Academic Soccer Academy in Leeds, where he earned his master’s degree in sport and exercise psychology. Carter is licensed by the English Football Association and National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The Lancers start their season on Aug. 26 at Joliet Junior College, followed by a match at Scott Community College on Sept. 1.
