The Lincoln Early Learning Center’s pre-K Jump Start program in Mundelein School District 75 has earned a Gold Circle of Quality designation for the first time, according to the village website.
The honor is awarded by the Illinois State Board of Education.
The Lincoln program, which has nearly 100 students, has never won the award before.
“The goal of Jump Start is to help families prepare their children for kindergarten, academically, socially, and emotionally,” teacher Stephanie Flade said in a recent press release. "Not only do teachers help children manage emotions such as anger and frustration, they also provide education to parents on how to work with their children at home."
According to Lincoln Principal Carol Bennett, every aspect of play has learning, social, and emotional components.
“We’re teaching these young learners that there are rules, boundaries and expectations about sharing, taking turns, and so on," she said in the release. "If we teach these appropriate skills in preschool we close the learning gap in kindergarten."
