Lake County voters may get to decide if sanitary district should dissolve

Water257

Sen. Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) has proposed an amendment to an 80-year-old Illinois law that would allow Lake County voters to decide in November whether to dissolve the Fox Lake Hills Sanitary District.

Althoff brought SB2452, which would amend the Sanitary District Act of 1936 and enable the dissolution of the Fox Lake Hills Sanitary District, before her peers Feb. 27 during Senate floor debate.

Per the agreement upon dissolution, which is only authorized if the district does not have any unpaid revenue bonds, “all of the assets and responsibilities of the district,” will be handed over board of Lake County, according to the bill synopsis.

“Lake County shall notify the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency of the dissolution of the Lakes Region Sanitary District and providing a copy of the dissolution agreement to the agency,” according to the synoposis of the bill that was referred to the Rules Committee.

If SB2452 becomes law, the question of whether Fox Lake Hills Sanitary District will be dissolved will be answered by voters Nov. 6.
