Village of Mettawa Parks and Recreation Committee met April 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

A. Call To Order

Chairman Sheldon called the meeting to order at 6:28 p.m.

B. Roll Call

Upon a call of the roll the following persons were:

Present: Chairman Sheldon and Members Bohm and Towne

Absent: None

Chairman Sheldon declared a quorum present.

Also Present: Village Administrator, Bob Irvin; Village Clerk, Sandy Gallo; Village Engineer, Scott Anderson;

C. Approval Of The Minutes Of March Meeting

Meeting minutes of March 14, 2018 were reviewed. Trustee Pink had a word correction on page 2. It was moved by Member Towne and seconded by Member Bohm that the meeting minutes be approved and placed on file. The motion was carried.

D. Discuss Route 60 Island Planting

Chairman Sheldon said she has reached out to Rocco, Fiore and Sons Inc., and requested a proposal for planting the flowers in the island.

E. Discuss Tree Removal Proposals From Perfect Cut Tree Services

Chairman Sheldon said Perfect Cut submitted two proposals. The first Perfect Cut proposal addresses the removal of buckthorn and some dead trees around the vernal pond. Member Towne said the first proposal would cover the area between Riverwoods Boulevard and Whippoorwill trail in the amount of $7,800. Chairman Sheldon said the second proposal from Perfect Cut addresses the area from Mettawa Lane north along to the east side of the Whippoorwill Park trail in the amount of $7,400. Chairman Sheldon stated Dunlap Tree Experts also submitted a proposal to clean-up the same areas and their proposal was significantly higher compared to Perfect Cut. Member Towne said an old chain link fence was also found in this area and a request has been made to Perfect Cut to remove it.

It was moved by Member Towne and seconded by Member Bohm to recommend approval of the two proposals from Perfect Cut including the old chain link fence down towards Mettawa Woods Drive to be removed. The motion carried.

F. Discuss Signage For Trails And Horse Crossings

Trustee Pink said Village Engineer Scott Anderson has ordered horse signs. Trustee Pink requested that Village Engineer Scott Anderson submit a proposal for the cost of installing and adjusting the street signs. Member Towne said he would like to ensure that Mr. Casas’ two horse crossing signs are installed rather quickly per the Village’s confirmation to him.

Trustee Pink said she will be meeting with Village Attorney Ferolo to discuss Mr. Casas’ two horse crossing signs, along with addressing any future equestrian owners request for horse crossing signs. Trustee Pink said she will be meeting with Village Attorney Ferolo on April 30th.

G. Discuss Obtaining Hay Proposal For 701 Riverwoods Road

Member Towne said he will reach out to Bob Haraden to determine if he is interested in mowing the hay this year.

H. Any Other Items That May Appear To The Committee For Consideration, And If Approved, Be Recommended For Approval To The Board Of Trustees

Chairman Sheldon said she received a proposal from John Irvin to remove the additional blacktop driveway at Whippoorwill Park. The proposal included the removal of the blacktop driveway and grading and seeding the area in the amount of $2,700. Village Engineer Scott Anderson provided copies of Forest Builders proposal at the meeting, also for the removal driveway, grading and seeding at Whippoorwill Park. The Forest Builders proposal was in the amount of $2,500.

Village Engineer Scott Anderson said IDOT will need to be notified prior to the driveway being removed. Member Towne said the second access driveway at Whippoorwill Park is not suitable for the senior residents for the Village picnic. Member Bohm said the Committee should consider completing this project later in the fall.

Village Administrator Irvin said if Whippoorwill Park is being considered as a possible location for this year’s picnic such factors as limited parking, no electricity, no water and staging the tents need to be discussed.

Member Bohm said he would like to extend a stone trail from the bench at Whippoorwill Park down to the existing trail.

Member Bohm said he would like Costco to be contacted regarding the corner piece of land located on Route 60 and Riverwoods. This small patch of land has weeds and thistle that should be cleared. Village Administrator Irvin said he will contact Costco regarding the area.

I. Adjournment

It was moved by Member Bohm and seconded by Member Towne to adjourn the meeting at 7:04 pm. The motion was carried.
