CITY OF HIGHLAND PARK: HP Career Exploration Program Provides Unique Opportunity For Students & Businesses

Career

City of Highland Park issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.

Highland Park professionals and Highland Park High School (HPHS) sophomores, juniors, and seniors are invited to participate in the Highland Park Career Exploration Program (HPCE). The year-round program provides Highland Park High School students the opportunity to gain valuable insights into a potential career path. Students are matched and meet with professionals to discuss career aspirations, work initiatives, and other professional inquiries.

The program, initiated by City Councilman Alyssa Knobel, was launched in 2016 to provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable insights into a potential career path and goals. Students are matched and meet with professionals to discuss career aspirations, work initiatives, and other professional inquiries. Professionals benefit by providing a critical service to local students and the community and developing an informed future workforce.

“The HPCE program has been incredibly well-received by students, parents, educators and participating professionals. As a new school year begins, I encourage our students to take advantage of this unique learning opportunity,” Mayor Nancy Rotering stated. “The partnership between the City, HPHS, and our business community makes it possible to build strong connections with our future leaders and equip them with skills they need for success in the workforce.”

Amy Burnetti, Fine and Applied Arts Department Chair at Highland Park High School stated, “HPHS does a great job preparing students for college, and this program enhances their experience as they prepare for a future career. We are grateful for the business community for participating in this enriching program for students.”

Approximately one hundred individuals participated since the launch of the program highlighting potential careers in the areas of public relations, marketing, medicine, government, public safety, merchandising, auto mechanics, technology and more.

Applications for professionals and students are being accepted on a rolling basis. Once selected, professionals are matched with students with similar career aspirations as soon as possible.

For information on the student participation process, please contact the City Manager’s Office at 847.926.1000. Professionals may complete an application at www.cityhpil.com; students may complete an application by contacting Amy Burnetti at aburnetti@dist113.org.
