PARK DISTRICT OF HIGHLAND PARK: Community Tree Walk at Heller Nature Center

Webp park 06

Park District of Highland Park issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.

Make your mark on the trails of Heller Nature Center by decorating a tree! Heller is home to 97 acres of oak hickory forest and oak savanna and our trees are just waiting to be noticed and adorned by YOU! What better way to celebrate our own community then to create a Community Tree Walk where everyone can be represented!

Who can sign up to decorate a tree? Community & corporate groups, families, schools, scout troops,  clubs, organizations, businesses, government agencies, individuals,  etc.

What is the theme? Get creative! Whatever you and your group decide best represents YOU!

What materials can we use?

Examples:

  • Yarn and ribbon to hang items or crochet a tree sweater
  • Recyclable materials to build next to or on the tree
  • Legos to build a structure around a tree
  • Painted fabric to wrap around the tree or string between branches
As this is an outdoor event, decorations must be affixed to the tree and be weatherproof. Tree decoration will take place the week of September 23. Our decorated Community Trees are on display  September 30-October 14.

There is no cost to participate in this event; however pre-registration is required, to register contact Heller Nature Center at 847.433.6901.

Registration ends Thursday, September 26. Groups should supply their own materials/decorations.
