Warren Township High School District 121 students suspended, expelled 390 times in a single school year

Warren Township High School District 121 reported three expulsions and 387 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred one students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 390 students during the year. That equates to 9.3 percent of the 4,191 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with violence that caused physical injury, one incident with violence without physical injury and one incident with a dangerous firearm weapon.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes three incidents. There were one incidents of violence without physical injury. For three incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 383 out-of-school suspensions, 273 were given to boys and 110 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 291 incidents. There were 50 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 215 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
