Grayslake Park District recently issued the following announcement.
Ever wonder what happens to old playground equipment when a new playground comes to town?
When the Grayslake Community Park District replaced the playground equipment at Antler Park in 2015, the district donated the old playground equipment to Kids Around the World. Kids Around the World is a nonprofit organization that takes old playground equipment, refurbishes it, and builds it in poverty-stricken communities around the globe.
Over the last few years, the Antler Park playground equipment was restored and divided between two communities – a section of the playground was built in India and a second portion was built at a feeding center in Nicaragua.
“Play is a critical part of a child’s development and a universal need, no matter the culture,” said Grayslake Park District Executive Director Kristin Splitt. “The Antler Park playground provided countless hours of creative play time for Grayslake area children and it’s wonderful that children from India and Nicaragua can continue to enjoy the playground.”
The Sunrise Park playground is scheduled to be replaced in spring 2019 and the Grayslake Park District hopes to donate the used equipment to Kids Around the World.
