Gurnee Park District issued the following announcement on March 18.
Quin O'Brien | Flipping through Gurnee Park District's program guide, I came across GO GURNEE. With an individual goal set to walk 10,000 steps a day, it seemed like a great way to add variety to my walks. As one of the newest Walking Club members, I look forward to meeting others as well as recruiting and encouraging the community to attend a walk, or better yet join the Walking Club.
"As I remain committed to a healthy lifestyle, I know GO GURNEE can be a great start for people looking to do the same." - Quin O'Brien
Walking was not always a part of my day to day routine. 5 years ago, I was roughly 235 pounds. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. In an effort to get off medication, my doctor encouraged me to lose weight. He was right. In addition to a healthy diet and walking 10,000 steps a day I was able to lose 60 pounds.
I am happy to share that my cholesterol and blood pressure are in check. In addition, I achieved my goal to get off of medication.GO GURNEE continues to motivate me to stay active and dedicated to my health and wellness goals. Being a GO GURNEE volunteer has introduced me to many new people and allows me to give back and inspire others. As I remain committed to a healthy lifestyle, I know GO GURNEE can be a great start for people looking to do the same.
In addition to being a GO GURNEE volunteer, I volunteer at Northern Illinois Food Bank and Feed My Starving Children. I continue to give back and look forward to a wonderful spring and summer season!
