10. MAYOR’S REPORT

Mayor Knight thanked the Board for approving Ron Price on the Police Pension Board saying it’s good to have that seat filled with a qualified person again.

He also thanked everyone who helped out at Wauconda Fest, commenting that Mother Nature didn’t cooperate this year but many people worked hard to put it on anyway. With that being said, he thanked the volunteers with CERT and EMA, congratulating them for hitting it right on the head, not once but twice. On Thursday notification was made by EMA that a severe storm was coming in within 20 minutes including high winds. The Fest committee and Park staff evacuated the grounds, and approximately 20 minutes later we were hit with approximately 40 mph winds and heavy rain. On Sunday, we had the exact same situation.again EMA was right on the money! The Mayor is proud of our EMA and CERT teams and is very happy that the Village continues with this program, things definitely could have turned out different without their professionalism and knowledge!

Last week the Mayor and Trustee Howe attended CLCJAWA’s board meeting and it was brought up to the board that Campanella has added an extra crew and are now working Saturdays to bring water to Volo and Wauconda near the end of the 3rd quarter. There were also some residents along the path who are not happy with the project and the contractors did experience some vandalism to their equipment. Hopefully that is taken care of now and the weather cooperates to keep this project on track.

Mayor Knight wished everyone a happy and safe Independence Day!

11. COMMITTEE REPORTS & TRUSTEE COMMENTS Trustee Black

“Wauconda Fest – Had a great time pouring beer with Administrator Timony and Trustee Shaw as well as some others. Wish the weather would have been a little better but had a great time and want to thank all the people that volunteered.

Cruise Night – We had Cruise Night a couple of weeks ago and it was crazy busy. We set a new record with 677 vehicles. That is the second time we have had over 600 vehicles show up to one of our cruise nights. A shout out to Public Works and to all the volunteers who made the last Cruise Night such a special night. I had so many people coming up to me to tell me what a great event we put on.

SWALCO – We had a SWALCO meeting a couple of weeks ago. A lot of good information. I will only share a little of it. First of all Wauconda just “rocks” recycling. I feel so good sitting in that room answering questions about how we get so much. With that being said, here are some quick numbers you should all know:

Pharmaceutical Collections – Wauconda collected 449 pounds of meds over the past six pick-ups. That does not count what the Township collected a couple of weeks ago. In all SWALCO collection 12,779 pounds of meds with an estimated street value of $645,000.

Textiles – Wauconda, during the D118 contest, collected 1,479 pounds of textiles. Of the villages that collect textiles, the one week contest was 25% of what ten communities collect the whole year. Our monthly average is the fourth highest.

Shoes – same thing here. The one week D118 contest amounted to 1,372 shoes collected. That is more shoes than 14 other communities collected the whole year. This is also why we are the number one village for shoe recycling.

One Day Collection – we have a one day collection that we rotate between Wauconda and Lake Zurich. We were the third highest car count of all the other ones held last year.

Bills SWALCO is working on: SB1240, plastic bag fee bill; SB557, carpet EPR bill; HB2296, lithium battery bill.

Remember that our next board meeting is Monday, July 15th. Why is that you ask? It’s because the July Cruise Night is on Tuesday, July 16th!”

Trustee Howe

Good luck to the Moose Lodge with their upcoming golf outing. He wished everyone a safe 4th of July.

Trustee Morino

The next big event after Wauconda Fest is the Kids Triathlon on July 20th and the Adult Triathlon is July 21st. The License & Administration Committee met and discussed an ordinance about possible snow removal. The next meeting will look at ways to implement and encourage snow removal. He mentioned the new State law regarding marijuana beginning January 1 and that the Committee will be looking at that. He wished everyone a happy, safe 4th of July.

Trustee Shaw

The United Partnership for a Better Community is hosting a community cookout this Friday, the 5th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cook Park. All are welcome and there will be a DJ as well as activities for the kids. He wished everyone a safe and enjoyable Independence Day.

Trustee Sode

He thanked everyone who volunteered at Wauconda Fest. He gave a shout out to the Marine Unit who made sure all the boaters were safe in the severe weather. He wished everyone a safe and happy 4th of July.
