ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 53: Walker Applauds Signing of Property Tax Relief Fund Law, Encourages More Action on Property Taxes

53

Illinois State House District 53 issued the following announcement on July 18

Legislation supported by state Rep. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, to establish a Property Tax Relief Fund as part of a larger effort to lower property taxes was recently signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

“I’m committed to working to lower property taxes for residents throughout our area,” Walker said. “High property taxes are the number one issue I hear from my district, and it’s certainly a priority in communities across this state. Creating a relief fund is one step in a multifaceted approach to bring real relief to hardworking families who deserve it.”

The Walker-backed Senate Bill 39, signed into law on July 12, creates an annual property tax refund process for homeowners by establishing a state-funded rebate process. Walker also co-sponsored Senate Bill 1932 which, if signed by the governor, will create a Property Tax Relief Task Force charged with developing comprehensive solutions by the end of the year to lower property taxes. On the local level, Walker has hosted multiple Property Tax Appeal Seminars helping constituents file appeals to lower their recent home reassessments.

“Lowering property tax burdens in a meaningful way will take more than a relief fund or a task force,” Walker said. “But, these are important steps to making good on my promise to fight for our families. I will always support smart and detailed programs like property tax rebates and a Fair Tax system that provides needed funding for our schools and communities while delivering real tax relief to those who need it most.”
