ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 59: Didech Property Tax Relief Legislation Signed into Law

59

Illinois State House District 59 issued the following announcement on July 18

Legislation championed by state Rep. Daniel Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, which will create a mechanism to lower the property tax burden on middle-class families by providing them yearly cost-saving rebates, was recently signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

“It is wrong that some families are being priced out of their homes and our community because of skyrocketing property taxes,” Didech said. “This new law is a crucial first step that will provide much-needed relief to local families and seniors.”

Didech led the charge on Senate Bill 39, which creates the Illinois Property Tax Relief Fund to provide yearly cost-saving rebates to homeowners who qualify for a general homestead exemption. Under Didech’s proposal, a homeowner’s rebate amount would be based on the amount of money available in the fund and the number of general homestead exemptions awarded in the state.

“Building a stronger Illinois for the middle class starts with real property tax relief, and I appreciate Governor Pritzker’s commitment to helping us achieve that goal,” Didech said. “I am ready to continue working with all my colleagues to make government more efficient and lower the tax burden on local families.”
