MUNDELEIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT 75: Local Entrepreneur Speaks to Students

Ent

Mundelein Elementary School District 75 recently issued the following announcement.

Local business owner Tony Volpentesta, aka Tony Cannoli, spoke to 8th grade students in the Career Tech class at Carl Sandburg Middle School. Volpentesta told the students how he followed his passions into a thriving career. “My true passion is entrepreneurship. I do love being in the kitchen, however, my passion for being in the kitchen did not develop until my mid twenties. Once the two came together, it only seemed natural to open up tony cannoli,” said Volpentesta.

He explained to the students that opening a business is hard work, but the long hours and effort is worth it when you believe in what you’re doing. “It took two and a half years to bring the shop to fruition, which were long and trying years, however, the effort was necessary to establish the quality base that we stand on today,” he said.

Teacher Brian Longly brings speakers such as Volpentesta into his classes to inspire students to think about their futures. “I like bringing speakers into my classroom is to give students a chance to hear from people with real world experience. It's great when I can talk to the students about photography, but it's better when I can have a professional photographer talk to them about what they do,” Longly said.

Volpentesta, a former Carl Sandburg Middle School student, was thrilled to have the opportunity to connect with the students. “To me, tony cannoli is more than top-quality pastries, it is an all encompassing community business. I grew up and went to school in Mundelein, and am confident that the education and opportunities in the town are plentiful for our youth. The students’ enthusiasm and honesty to learn are an inspiration to me; reminding me that a constant pursuit of education is necessary for a more fulfilling life.”
