As of Jan. 1, Illinois' combined average local and state sales tax rate was 9.08%, the sixth-highest rate among the 50 states, according to an analysis by the Tax Foundation.
The state’s sales tax rate is 6.25 percent and the average local sales tax weighted for population is 2.83 percent, the Tax Foundation analysis found.
