In Illinois, 19.8% of adults have unpaid medical debts, according to a recent analysis by the website 24/7 Wall St based on data from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
The analysis also found that 7% of the population is uninsured and 17.2% of the adult population is rated in fair to poor health. In addition, the median medical debt assigned to collection agencies in Illinois is $555,
Nationwide, 22.7% of adults have medical debts that are past due, according to the study.
