Illinois State House District 62 issued the following announcement on June 5
In response to the increased need for medical care due to the COVID-19 pandemic, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, voted to support legislation to expand access to health services.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic has shown, it is critical that people have access to quality healthcare,” Yingling said. “The health of residents is my main focus during this pandemic, and expanding access to health services is a good first step in keeping our community safe.”
Yingling supported Senate Bill 1864, bipartisan legislation that expands access to telehealth and mental health services, in addition to directing top state officials to produce a report on ways to reduce the cost of health insurance. The measure would also make proving eligibility for services, such as the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), easier.
During his time in the General Assembly, Yingling has fought for the health of his community. During this General Assembly, Yingling fought to ban ethylene oxide emissions, a chemical that is linked to increased cancer rates in the communities in which it is emitted. Yingling also holds seminars and health fairs to help inform residents about their options regarding health care services.
“Providing the community with additional health services is a vital way to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Yingling said. “As we continue to work to provide relief and respond to the current situation, I look forward to working on more ways to make sure that our community has the resources they need to stay healthy.”
Senate Bill 1864 passed both the House and Senate with bipartisan support, and is headed for the Governor’s desk to become law.
