Lake Zurich FD responds to 78 fires in 2018

Lake Zurich Fire District responded to 645 calls in 2018 - 9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Lake Zurich included 78 fires - 50 structure fires, 13 vehicle fires and 15 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,044,031 in fire loss - or about $13,385 per fire.

The department also received 562 false calls, including nine malicious calls and 553 other false calls.

The calls resulted in four civilian fire-related injuries and one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, two fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Lake Zurich Fire District had an annual budget of $5,782,080 in 2018.

The Lake Zurich Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 53 active employees and 28 retired or inactive employees, was $2,696,698 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $33,709 for every fire in 2017.
