At the Nov. 1 meeting of the Village of Wauconda Board, the board discussed adding a new category of liquor license that would be available to businesses in the village.

The board has been discussing this license, referred to as the 'bring your own beverage license,' for several meetings. It would be categorized as Liquor License J and would apply to special events closed to the general public for individuals to bring in their own beverages.

“The board was in favor of this, and this ordinance ... reflects the conversation that you've had in the last two meetings with a couple of adjustments that were made in preparing this ordinance,” Allison Matson, a village administrator, said.

Some of the adjustments and stipulations that the board made to the license included having a BASSET-certified manager or supervisor at the event. This is the certification in the state of Illinois that allows for serving and selling alcohol. This is a change from the original requirement of having all staff BASSET certified, as the board decided that some staff would be there solely for clean-up or set-up and would not have to be certified.

The license would be good for a year, not based on number of events, and the village has to be notified each time a private event including alcohol was to be held, which can be done through email to the police department, not less than 24 hours in advance. The price for the license was set at $250, subject to change based on popularity and use.

The board also voted to approve a resolution that requested approximately $4.2 million to be levied for the 2022 Tax Year.

The board will meet again at 6 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the Village Hall board room on 7101 North Main St.
