The Waukegan Department of Public Works has received approval from the City Council to enter into an agreement with Baxter & Woodman for the next phase of design engineering services for the Greenwood Avenue Bridge. The agreement, which was approved during the City Council's meeting on October 16, is for an amount not to exceed $345,563. Baxter & Woodman will be responsible for providing final plans, specifications, and estimates for the replacement of the bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad.
This improvement project is a joint effort between the city and the state of Illinois. According to a Joint Funding Agreement for PE/ROW attached to the Waukegan City Council's agenda update for October 16, the city will contribute 20% or approximately $69,000 of the funding, while the remaining 80% ($276,450) will come from federal funds.
The project for the Greenwood Avenue Bridge Replacement began with a request for qualifications from firms interested in providing engineering services for the first two phases. The request was issued in November 2019, as stated in the Request for Engineering Statement of Qualifications for Greenwood Avenue over Union Pacific Railroad SN 049-9952 attached to the Waukegan City Council agenda update for October 16.
With the approval of the design engineering agreement, the city of Waukegan is taking another step forward in improving the Greenwood Avenue Bridge. The next phase of the project will involve finalizing the plans, specifications, and estimates for the bridge replacement. This development will contribute to the overall infrastructure enhancement in the area, benefiting both residents and commuters.
