The Village of Buffalo Grove Board of Trustees is set to decide whether it should donate the proceeds from the 2023 BG Days event to the BG Community Foundation. This move would support not-for-profit groups assisting the village, and the decision will be taken at its meeting on Nov. 6.
"The Village of Grove Board of Trustees will decide if it should donate the proceeds of the 2023 BG Days event to the BG Community Foundation in support of not-for-profit groups supporting the village at its Nov. 6 meeting," stated in a staff memorandum.
COVID-19 brought about changes to Buffalo Grove Days' management in 2021 when a 50/50 partnership was established between the village and the park district, as mentioned in a staff memorandum attached to the Buffalo Grove Board of Trustees' Nov. 6 meeting agenda. This shift led to unprecedented profitability for the event after several years.
In further developments last year, a 'rainy day fund' was created by The Village Board to bolster future BG Days. A sum of $28,000 was deposited into this fund through contributions from the Buffalo Grove Community Foundation, while an additional $4,000 was allocated for general fund activities as per a staff memorandum attached to their Nov. 6 meeting agenda.
An agreement was reached between The Village and community foundation in 2022 that any income earned from that year's event would be used solely for supporting local nonprofit organizations as referenced in another staff memorandum attached to their Nov. 6 meeting agenda. This resulted in an amount totalling $30,040 being used for such purposes.
Finally, this year's proposal suggests donating $21,815 to the community foundation - this figure equates to what remains from The Village's profits after deducting costs associated with organizing Buffalo Grove Days Parade, according to a staff memorandum attached to their upcoming Nov. 6 meeting agenda.
