Podcast host Joe Weiss said he does not approve of the competitive nature of superintendents’ positions in public school districts and how it uses tax payer money.
“I've never been a big fan of this whole bidding against other school districts for superintendents,” Weiss said to co-host Pete Jansons on the Lake Forest podcast. “The inherent nature of the public school system is such that you have Lake Forest High School competing with all these other districts for top talent.”
“When we hired our superintendent, back in the stone ages, I voted against the contract, against the hiring, not because I was against the person we were hiring but I was against how the contract was structured because it had long-term deals, it had severance pay if they were let go” Weiss said. “And it turns out they ended up being let go and then we had to pay him severance pay, which was a total waste of tax dollars.”
