Former Lake Forest Caucus member: Committee members ‘need to be an advocate for the city as a whole’

Jake Weisser, a former Lake Forest resident and caucus committee member, said making the amount of people per ward in the caucus committee by population would potentially be discriminatory. The committee is currently made up of nine members for each of the four wards.

“Let's just use alderman for an example, because you know they represent a ward; they have to represent the city as a whole first, and the interests of their ward,” Weisser told hosts Pete Jansons and Joe Weiss on the Lake Forest podcast. “They can't just pick my ward's the best ward and we're going to get all the resources and I'm going to advocate for anything that happens in my ward, no. They really need to be an advocate for the city as a whole.”

“So I think that creating a system by which it's dictated by population would maybe feel other communities or areas of Lake Forest to be feeling disenfranchised like they don't have an equal seat at the table,” Weisser said. “I don't necessarily believe that that's the correct way to go about that.”
