The Waukegan City Council was poised to award contracts worth over $2 million for its Fiscal Year 2024 Road Program during its meeting on Monday night. These contracts encompass paving and construction engineering services for the said program.

Public Works Director Chris Garland recommended that the paving project bid be awarded to J.A. Johnson Paving Co., the lowest qualified bidder, for an amount not exceeding $1.94 million. According to bid documents attached to the Waukegan City Council's agenda for its Dec. 18 meeting, the four bids received ranged from $1.94 million to $2.19 million.

According to bid documents for construction engineering services attached to the Waukegan City Council's agenda for its Dec. 18 meeting, Robinson Engineering was suggested as the provider of these services for the road program. A lump sum fee of $83,000 would include $14,800 allocated for materials inspection and testing by Geocon.

As per its proposal attached to the Waukegan City Council's agenda for its Dec. 18 meeting, Waukegan plans to rehabilitate four streets as part of the FY2024 program. The first street, 8th Parkway, is set to be rehabilitated from Dugdale to McAree (2,546 feet). Work is also planned on Partridge Street from Lewis to Yeoman (1,550 feet), Ash Street from Grand Avenue to Ridgeland (3,312), and Franklin Street from Jackson Street to North Avenue (1,630 feet), culminating in a total of 9,038 feet of rehabilitation work. A full-time resident engineer will oversee this project.
