Mary Cole, a candidate for Lake County State’s Attorney, expressed her gratitude on Facebook following a successful fundraising event at Anastasia’s Restaurant in Antioch on Wednesday, Jan. 17. She acknowledged the strong turnout and the positive atmosphere despite the cold weather.
“There was a huge turnout (which is good because the room was HUGE!!),” Cole said. “Everyone seemed happy despite coming out on the freezing cold night.
"I spoke with so many supporters and heard the issues surrounding the northwest part of Lake County.”
In her post-event comments, Cole thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
"THANK YOU!!!! What an amazing night in Antioch!!!" she wrote on Facebook.
She also extended her appreciation to her sponsors and to Anastasia’s Restaurant for hosting the event.
The Lake County Gazette had previously reported in December about this event which was initially announced by Cole on Facebook. In her announcement, she invited attendees and mentioned sponsorship opportunities. Cole expressed her anticipation for the gathering and directed prospective attendees to register on MaryForLakeCounty.com, where various contribution options were outlined.
In November, Cole officially filed to run for Lake County State’s Attorney, thereby solidifying her candidacy. Committed to bringing change, she pledged compassion and accountability for the office. Criticizing incumbent Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart, Cole highlighted what she perceives as a decline in prosecutions, an increase in crime, and chaos within his office - concerns that align with her campaign focus according to another news release from Lake County Gazette.
A former assistant state’s attorney in Lake County herself, Cole has stressed addressing issues such as low morale and inadequate attorney training during her campaign for the November 2024 election. Another news report reveals that Cole is a partner at Brady Cole Trial Lawyers and brings experience from both prosecution and defense, with a notable track record in handling cases involving DUIs, domestic battery, and orders of protection.
